39 Falcons Receive Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence from NE10

Thirty-nine recent Bentley University graduates are among the 2022 recipients of the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence, an honor awarded by the conference to graduating senior student-athletes for their outstanding work in the classroom during their college careers.

50 years ago, when Title IX became law, there were no athletics for women at Bentley University. A year later, field hockey, basketball and softball debuted as club sports. The following year, all three were elevated to varsity level, with Daryl Leonard the head coach of each.

Fourth-seeded Jefferson University limited fifth-seeded Bentley University to only 18 second-half points, including just seven in the fourth, and held on for a 50-47 win in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball East Regional Friday night at Southern New Hampshire University’s Stan Spirou Fieldhouse.

Championship Most Outstanding Player Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall School) put up her fifth double-double in the last six games and the Falcon defense surrendered only four fourth-quarter points as Bentley University captured the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Basketball Championship with a 56-49 victory over Stonehill College Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center.

The winner will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division II East Regional while the other team will be left on the proverbial bubble with their NCAA hopes in the hands of the selection committee. In the latest NCAA regional rankings, Bentley was seventh and Stonehill was eighth. Eight teams qualify, but the number eight seed will most likely go to the East Coast Conference champion.

Northeast-10 Conference semifinalists for the 36th time, the Bentley University women’s basketball team will be looking to advance to the NE10 championship game for the record 30th time when they take on Le Moyne College Thursday in Syracuse, N.Y. The 5:30 pm game from Ted Grant Court will be streamed on the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

The usual starting lineup for the Bentley University women’s basketball team this season has consisted of graduate student Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall School), senior guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS), junior guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS), sophomore guard Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and freshman guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS).

Strong 2nd-Half Sends Bentley Past Franklin Pierce and into the NE10 Semis

Second-half runs of 10-2 and 11-0 propelled Bentley University to a 63-52 quarterfinal win over Franklin Pierce University and a record 36th trip to the Northeast-10 Conference semifinals in women’s college basketball Monday night at the Dana Center.
