Varsell & Drago Selected for Capital One NCAA Div. II Academic All-America® Honors

– Four-time All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), a rising senior at Bentley University, has been named to the 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Women’s Track and Cross Country first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which was announced Wednesday. Her classmate, John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), also earned Academic All-America recognition with selection to the men’s track and cross country third team.

A trio of Bentley University juniors have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 1 track and cross country teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). They are John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), Sean Maguire (Essex, Vt./Essex HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Burlington HS).

Bentley University placed a conference-high five student-athletes on the 2011 Academic All-Northeast-10 Conference Cross Country teams. The five-person men's team included Falcon senior Tom Witherell (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos HS) and juniors John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) and Rob Dextradeur (Branford, Conn./ Branford HS).

The Bentley University men’s and women’s cross country teams will have their sights set on earning a trip to Spokane, Wash. and the NCAA Division II Championships when they run Sunday afternoon at Boston’s Franklin Park in the NCAA Division II East Regional. The women’s race is set for 1:30 pm and the men will follow at 2:30 pm.

Bentley Cross Country Teams Ranked High in Preseason Regional Rankings

With the majority of both teams returning, the Bentley University men’s and women’s cross country teams both garnered significant respect in the preseason Division II East Region rankings, announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The women’s team was ranked third, behind Stonehill College and Southern Connecticut State, and the Falcon men were fourth, trailing UMass-Lowell, Stonehill and Southern Connecticut.
