Morena Leads Bentley Women at New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. – Just as was the case in her previous two races this season, Bentley University junior Julia Morena (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) was the number one finisher for the Falcons during the New England Championships at Franklin Park Saturday.

Morena was ninth amongst Northeast-10 Conference runners, 25th amongst non-Division I athletes and 93rd overall with a 5,000-meter time of 19:04.7.

The other Falcon to finish in the top 200 of the 265-runner varsity race was junior Katie Burke (Braintree/Braintree HS), who was 195th in 20:11.4. That was an improvement of 52 places and about 67 seconds from her 2014 performance.

As a team, Bentley was 35th of 39, mirroring its finish from a year ago, and fifth among the eight NE-10 squads. Due to injuries, the Falcons were running without three of their projected top four.

Boston College, which had the top two individuals, ran away with the team title, with its score of 56 bettering runner-up Quinnipiac University by 88 points. Laura Hottenrott captured the championship with a 17:39.1, beating teammate Isabelle Kennedy by 2.8 seconds.

On Friday, Bentley will travel to Hopkinton, N.H. for the Franklin Pierce-hosted Bruce Kirsch Cross Country Cup.
