Bentley Improves to 10-0 at Home with Sweep of Mercy

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student Amanda Parker (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles North HS), a two-time Northeast-10 Player of the Week, made five blocks and sophomore Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS) served four of the team's ten aces as Bentley University swept Mercy College, 3-0, in non-conference volleyball Wednesday night at the Dana Center. The scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-15.

Bentley, 16-4 overall, extended its home winning streak to 10 matches, its overall winning streak to eight and its set winning streak to 19. Coach Joey Pacis' Falcons are a sparkling 13-1 against East Region opposition.

There were only two lead changes in the match. A kill by junior Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kan./Saint James Academy) early in the first set put Bentley in front to stay, 3-2, and one by  Rachel Vitko (Dover, N.H./Dover HS) did the same in the third, 4-3.

Grad student Katie Rounds (McFarland, Wis./McFarland HS) had the set point in the second, and match point was recorded by reigning NE10 Player of the Week Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS).

Wheeler finished with a match-high 11 kills and Rounds hit .417 with eight kills and three blocks. Parker, in addition to her five blocks, provided 18 assists, four kills, two aces and five digs. Burke led the team in digs with 16.

Bentley outhit the 8-3 Mavericks .296-.100 and had advantages of 7-3 in blocks and 10-2 in aces.

The Falcons will return to action Tuesday with an important Northeast-10 encounter at American International. The Yellow Jackets' only loss to date was to Bentley back in late August during the Hoffman Memorial Tournament.
