Bentley Win Streak Reaches 5 with 3-0 Win over Post

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./Saint James Academy) and senior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS), the last two conference Rookies of the Year, combined for 19 kills as Bentley University swept Post University, 3-0, in non-conference college volleyball Friday night at the Dana Center. The scores were 25-16, 25-23 and 25-7.

The 19 kills – 10 by Wheeler and nine by Murphy – were one more than Post (4-10) had as a team.

The opening set was close until Bentley (13-4) ran off eight straight points to open a 21-12 lead. Junior Caitlin Wunder (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) had two kills and Murphy served an ace during the spurt.

The second set was the most competitive of the three. It was 22-all before the Falcons closed it out with the 3-1 run including two Murphy kills.

The final set featured a string of 12 straight points with Erica Borzone (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset HS) on the serve for the final 11. Included were a pair of aces by the freshman.

Ten different Falcons recorded at least one kill as coach Joey Pacis made liberal use of his bench. Junior Maddy Kelley (Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area HS) had four blocks and both Rounds sisters, grad student Katie and freshman Hannah (McFarland, Wis./McFarland HS) put down four kills.

Grad student Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) had another strong effort as the reigning NE10 Player of the Week contributed 16 assists, two aces, 13 digs, one block and six kills.

Bentley will be right back at it on Saturday afternoon when the Falcons will host St. Michael's College (1 pm).
