Burke Serves 5 Aces as Bentley Wins 4th Straight

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore libero Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS) made 18 digs and served half of the Falcons' ten aces as Bentley University improved to 4-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 3-0 sweep of Franklin Pierce University in college volleyball action at the Dana Center Tuesday night.

Bentley, 12-4 overall, hit .347 while winning for the ninth time in ten matches against NCAA Division II East Region opponents. Franklin Pierce dropped to 5-7 overall and 1-2 conference.

Three of Burke's five aces came on successive serves during the opening set.

Each of the three sets included just one lead change. A run of four straight points put Bentley in front to stay in the first, 12-10, and in the second, the Falcons went on a 12-2 surge after trailing early.

The third set was the closest of the three before Bentley finished with a 5-1 spurt. That run included kills by junior Maddy Kelley (Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area HS) and grad student Katie Rounds (McFarland, Wis./McFarland HS), as well as an ace by junior Angie Grabmeier (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS).

Senior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS) turned in a strong performance with 11 kills, 11 digs, two aces and a .408 hitting percentage.

Five other Falcons had at least five kills, including junior Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kan./Saint James Academy) who had six while playing only the first two sets.

Bentley's homestand will continue this weekend with the Falcons hosting Post University Friday evening and St. Michael's College Saturday afternoon.
