Vitko, Parker Lead Balanced Attack as Bentley Downs Shippensburg in 4

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman outside hitter Rachel Vitko (Dover, N.H./Dover HS) recorded a career-high 12 kills, the last coming on match point, and senior setter Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) had a strong overall match as Bentley University defeated Shippensburg University in non-conference volleyball Friday evening at Heiges Field House. The scores were 25-21, 25-17, 27-29 and 25-20.

Parker finished with 39 assists, 15 digs, four blocks and four kills with the double-double her sixth in eight matches this season.

Bentley, after falling behind 6-2 early on, came back to take the opening set on the strength of five kills in as many swings by senior middle Shannon Ngo (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda HS).

The Falcons opened the second set with three unanswered points and closed with a 10-4 run. Three of Vitko's kills came during the set.

In the fourth, Bentley collected five of the first six points and was never seriously threatened by the Raiders (3-6).

Vitko was one of five Falcons with at least six kills. Ngo finished with ten, junior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit, Mass./Barnstable HS) followed with nine, sophomore Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./Saint James Academy) made eight and junior Katie Rounds (McFarland, Wisc./McFarland HS) recorded with a .375 hitting percentage. Murphy also had 14 digs and two aces.

Freshman libero Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS) led the Falcons with 19 digs.

For Shippensburg, Hope Leavy-Gaskins led the way with 12 kills and two blocks.

Bentley outhit the Raiders, .205-.150, and had the match's only four aces.

Bentley will remain at Shippensburg for an 11:30 am match against Queens College (N.Y.) on Saturday.
