On This Day, 2013: Dominguez Leads Balanced Attack as Bentley Sweeps Visiting Adelphi, 3-0

Junior middle hitter Savannah Dominguez hit .556 and finished with 11 kills and four service aces as Bentley swept Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference Senior Day women's volleyball action at the Dana Center. The scores were 25-17, 25-20 and 25-17.

The win, coupled with Saint Rose's 3-2 setback at Franklin Pierce, gave Bentley sole possession of second place in the NE-10 and put the Falcons in position to climb in NCAA Division II East Region rankings. The Falcons (15-8, 9-2 NE-10) were eighth in the most recent rankings while Adelphi (17-11, 9-4 NE-10 after its second loss in as many days) was fifth.

The opening set featured four kills apiece from sophomore Jaci Buscher and senior Ashley Ahearn. The Falcons ran off five straight points, the last two coming on Dominguez kills, to take a 5-1 lead and put the set away with an 8-2 closing run.

The second was tied at 19 before a kill from junior Simone Silvera began a set-ending 6-1 spurt. Junior Kaleigh Sullivan had three of her seven kills during that stretch.

A 10-1 burst opened a 14-6 lead in the third and the Falcons finished the match with three consecutive kills, by Ahearn, Dominguez and Buscher.

Sullivan (.700) and Silvera (6 kills, .500) also had impressive hitting games for the Falcons without committing an error, and Buscher finished with nine kills. Junior setter Alex Tator provided 32 assists and junior libero Lauren Colasanti recorded a team-best 11 digs.
