Bruno Repeats as Northeast-10 co-Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second straight week, Bentley University freshman middle blocker Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Frances Parker HS) has been named the Volleyball co-Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Bentley had only one match last week and the six-foot Bruno came up big, powering the Falcons to a three-set sweep of Merrimack College.  Playing in her first career home match, she hit an impressive .526 with 11 kills and only one error, and also provided two blocks, two digs and a dozen points.

For the season, Bruno is averaging 1.98 kills, 0.92 blocks, 0.67 digs and 2.6 points while hitting .293. She ranks fifth in the conference in blocks and has the seventh best hitting percentage. Bruno has had at least ten kills four times, including each of her last three matches.

The Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included two of Bruno's teammates, seniors Allie Rotkin (Cumming, Ga./Milton HS) and Lauren Van Buren (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa HS).

In the Merrimack victory, Van Buren hit .345 with 12 kills, six digs, two blocks and 13 points, and Rotkin gave the Falcons 36 assists, nine digs, two blocks, two kills and an ace.

Bentley, 2-0 NE-10 and 4-11 overall, will host Stonehill College Tuesday at 7 pm.
