11 Aces Helps Southern Connecticut State Snap Bentley Win Streak, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Eleven service aces, including three apiece from sophomore Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) and junior Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas), helped Southern Connecticut State post a 3-0 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Wednesday night at the Pelz Gym.

The 25-12, 25-17, 25-15 Southern victory snapped the Falcons' winning streak at four and dropped Bentley to 6-5 overall (1-2 NE-10). The Owls ran their records to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Senior Megan Lyons (Cold Spring, N.Y.) and sophomore Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) each had nine kills to lead Southern offensively, and Lachowicz had the assist on 32 of her team's 38 kills. Southern had 13 blocks as a team, including six by junior Syriah Celestine (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and five from both Beres and senior Megan Hiss (Trinidad, Colo).

Those blocks played a key factor in Bentley having more attack errors (25) than kills (22). Freshman Tatiana Froehlich (Newton, Mass./Newton North HS) led the Falcons in hitting at .300, with five kills and two errors in ten swings. Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS), also a freshman, had a hand in five of Bentley's eight blocks.

Bentley is off until next Tuesday when it will play at Saint Anselm.
