OAKDALE, N.Y. -- Freshman Cassy Kelly (Fraser, Mich.) and junior Bethany Shepard (Lakewood, Colo.) combined for 32 kills and a .431 hitting percentage as Dowling College, ranked 22nd nationally in Division II, spoiled the season debut for a freshman-laden Bentley University volleyball team Friday night in the Dowling Invitational.

Kelly had 17 kills and a .435 hitting percentage and Shepard swung at a .433 success rate with 15 kills in the 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 victory for the 2-0 Golden Lions.

Dowling also received 36 assists from grad student Maja Potpara (Pljevlja, Montenegro) and four aces from freshman Elizabeth Gorman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).

Freshmen accounted for 18 of Bentley's 21 kills in the match, with Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/ Newton North HS) topping the list with five in her collegiate debut.

The tournament continues on Saturday with Bentley slated to face Lock Haven University and the University of Charleston (W.V.).
