Varsell Set to Wrap Up Career with 8th Trip to an NCAA Championship

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student and six-time All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), the most decorated student-athlete in Bentley University women's track history, will wrap up her career Mar. 14-15 at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track Championships, which will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

It will be the eighth trip to a national championship for Varsell, who has qualified for the NCAAs outdoors three times (2011, 2012, 2013), indoors three times (2011, 2012 and this season) and cross country twice (2011 and this past fall).

Varsell will be competing in the mile with her seed time of 4:56.30 ranking fifth in a field of 18. It's a young group at the top with three sophomores and a freshman in front of her. She qualified with her performance in the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic in late January.

Varsell's season has included a victory in the mile and a second-place finish in the 1000 at the Northeast-10 Championships and a fourth-place finish in the mile at the New Englands. Her resume now includes six Northeast-10 championships and seven All-New England awards.

The school record holder in six individual events and four relays, Varsell has earned All-America honors indoors twice (800 in 2011 and 2012), outdoors three times (800 in 2011 and 2012, 1500 last May) and in cross country this past November.

Varsell, who is now working on her Masters of Science in Accountancy, is a three-time recipient of the Northeast-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award and a two-time first-team Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America.

The prelims of the mile will be contested at 3:15 pm on Friday, March 14, and the finals will be at 4:10 pm the following day.
