Brennan Sets PR in 5000 at New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) was the top performer for the Bentley University men's and women's indoor track teams during the opening day of competition at the New England Championships at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center Friday.

Uthman-Olukokun finished tenth of 29 in the prelims of the 200 meters with a time of 22.04 seconds. That shattered his existing personal best by 0.31 seconds and came within a hundredth-of-a-second of the school record.

Earlier in the day, Uthman-Olukokun missed advancing in the 60 meter dash by just three-thousandths of a second. He posted a 7.14 to place 17th of 29 in the prelims.                On the women's side, the top performance came from sophomore Sarah Brennan (Quincy/ Notre Dame Academy) in the 5,000 meters. She finished 16th of 24 overall with her time of 18:32.53 a new PR by 28.5 seconds and the fifth best in Bentley history.

Also competing for the Falcons on Friday were freshmen Matt Powell (Charlton/St. John's) and Danielle Coskren (North Andover/North Andover HS) and juniors Anthony Charter (Hubbardston/ Quabbin Reg. HS) and Alix Pettinella (Wingdale, N.Y./Arlington HS).

Powell totaled 2,119 points during the first day of the heptathlon and currently stands in tenth place. His best performance came in the high jump as he tied his own PR with a height of five feet, 10.75 inches.

Charter was 20th in the long jump (20'10.5"), Pettinella was 26th in the 1000 (3:09.58) and Coskren finished 30th in the 800 (2:30.35).

The championships will resume Saturday morning.
