Women’s Tennis Defeats NE10 Rival Saint Anselm 5-2 in Season Opener

Hookset, N.H. – Eight different student-athletes won in either singles or doubles to help the Bentley University women's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Northeast-10 rival Saint Anselm on Thursday in the Falcons' season opening match.

Bentley won the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Four different players then won in singles as the Falcons closed out the match.

Bentley's No. 1 pairing of Makena Romagnano (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and Anna Lang (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) earned a 6-2 victory over Saint Anselm's Emily Jacy and Elizabeth Janiak. In the No. 2 match, Remi LeSage (Sarasota, Fla./IMG) and Zoe Chin (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) blanked Maikah Bulpitt and Dominique Bolduc, 6-0.

In singles, the Falcons won the No. 1, 3, 5 and 6 matches. Freshman Adriana Hiraldo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) defeated Jacy in two sets, 7-5, 6-1, in the No. 1 match. In No. 3, it was team co-captain Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Bulpitt.

Sophomore Grace Bennett (Paxton, Mass./Wachusett) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Janiak in No. 5, and junior Cindy Luo (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) defeated Josie Hulbert in No. 6 by a 6-2, 6-2 score.

Bentley (1-0) is scheduled to get back on the courts on Sunday when they visit AIC.
