Matuty and Romagnano Named Captains of the Bentley Women’s Tennis Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) and sophomore Makena Romagnano (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) have been named captains of the Bentley University women's tennis team for the 2021 season.

"Our women's team is very deep this year," said 8th year head coach Rick Edelmann. "Alessa and Makena have been amazing leaders of a very enthusiastic group. They've done a great job organizing, and our players are looking forward to competing."

Matuty was team captain last season and was positioned as the Falcons' No. 1 singles player. That followed a freshman season that saw her claim two NE10 Rookie of the Week awards. She is a finance major at Bentley.

Last season Romagnano earned both NE10 Player and Rookie of the Week, on March 18. She teamed with Matuty in No. 1 doubles for a handful of matches last season, and the pair earned wins over Shippensburg and Immaculata to help Bentley to wins in both matches.

Romagnano earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition for last season. She is a double major in marketing, and earth, environment, and global sustainability.
