St. Thomas Aquinas Tops Bentley down in Florida

Lakeland, Fla. – St. Thomas Aquinas, ranked No. 8 in the East Region, posted a 7-0 win over the Bentley women's tennis team on Tuesday afternoon down in Florida.

Newly named NE10 Player of the Week Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) went to three sets in the No. 1 match against Sofiia Shutko. Matuty won the first set 6-2, but Shutko rallied and took the next two sets, 6-3 and 10-3.

The No. 2 match between Bentley's Makena Romagnano (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and STAC's Eliza Mulder went to three sets as well. Mulder won the first set 6-4, but Romagano earned the second set 6-4. Mulder however clinched the match in the third set, 10-3.

The Spartans improved to 11-6 on the season. Bentley will next play on Thursday against Immaculata in Orlando.
