Hui & Welty Lead Bentley at ITA Regionals

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Junior Rachel Hui (Hong Kong) and freshman Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mound Westonka) were the top performers for Bentley at the ITA Women's Tennis East Regional over the weekend on Long Island.

The two each won two singles matches to qualify for the main singles draw, and also won a match in the doubles completion.

Welty first defeated Janis Jimenez of Caldwell, followed by a victory over Ruth Artaza Martin of Queens (N.Y.) to qualify for the 64 player main draw. Hui first knocked off Michella Iosipov of Saint Thomas Aquinas, followed by win over Amica Limosani of Le Moyne to gain entry to the main draw.

Hui and Welty then continued their success as a team in the doubles tournament. They came into the weekend with a 5-1 record as a pair, and kept it going with an 8-2 first round victory over Caroline St. Antoni and Limosani of Le Moyne. However, their run came to an end in the next round when they were defeated by the top seed in the draw, Rebecca Fakas and Karen Serina of Adelphi.

The team of Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) and Katie Brandow (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) also won a first round match. They defeated Marouisa Bosch and Salome Arsalia of Roger Williams by an 8-5 score, but fell in the next round to the No. 2 seed in the draw, Alessia Rossetti and Lena Dimmer from NYIT.

The teams of Tiffany Suchanek (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and Corrie MacLean (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and Alexia Petruzziello (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) and Rachel Madden (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) were also in the main doubles draw for the Falcons.
