Stonehill Tops Bentley 5-0 in Northeast-10 First Round

EASTON, Mass. – In a first round match at the Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Championship, sixth-seeded Bentley was defeated by third-seeded Stonehill 5-0 at the indoor Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

With the first team to five points winning the match and advancing, the Skyhawks took a big advantage by sweeping the three doubles matches. The team of Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn./Popmeraug) and Lexie Hinrichs (Franklin, Mass./Ursuline Academy) had the best showing in doubles, dropping an 8-3 decision in the No. 3 match to Analise Kump and Lorraine Smith.

Stonehill then won the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches to advance. Kump defeated Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 match, and Kaitlyn Martin got the better of Scott 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 match. Sophomore Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) took the first set 7-6 (8-6) against Kirsti Toegemann in the No. 1 match, but they were not able to finish.

The Skyhawks advance to play Adelphi in Friday's semifinal, while Bentley's season comes to a close at 8-11.
