Bentley Rallies in Singles to Top New Haven 6-3

WOODBRIDGE, Conn. – Bentley won five of six singles matches to rally past New Haven for a 6-3 victory to stay unbeaten in Northeast-10 women's tennis on Wednesday.

New Haven won the top two flights in doubles, but the team of freshman Susan Stowe (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) and sophomore Lexie Hinrichs (Franklin, Mass./Ursuline Academy) won the third flight for Bentley to earn a point, 8-4 over Christina Santos and Jess MacPhee.

Though they trailed 2-1 heading into singles play, Bentley won five of six matches in singles to take the 6-3 victory.

Sophomore Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) won in the first flight after dropping the first set to Eva Rybka for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) victory. Sophomore Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) took the second flight match over Lindsey Conley 6-2, 3-0 after Conley retired.

Sophomore Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) defeated Samantha Nigri in the fourth flight 7-5, 4-0 after Nigri retired. Stowe was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Sarah Burzin in the fifth flight, and freshman Kayla Anghinette (Seekonk, Mass./Bishop Feehan) defeated Christiana Santos in the sixth flight 6-0, 6-0.

Bentley will go into its final match of the fall on Saturday against Le Moyne at home with records of 3-0 overall and 3-0 in Northeast-10 play. The match gets underway at 1:00 pm.
