Saint Michael’s Tops Bentley 5-0 in NE-10 First Round
COLCHESTER, Vt. – Fourth-seeded Saint Michael's advanced to the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Championship with a 5-0 victory over fifth-seeded Bentley on Wednesday afternoon.
The Purple Knights took a huge 3-0 advantage into singles after winning all three doubles matches. Bentley came closest in the second flight, where Kara Murphy (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) and Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) fell 8-4 to Alex Dalton and Caroline Martin.
Those results in doubles meant the Knights needed to win just two singles matches, and they got them from Emily Magee in the first-flight and Dalton in the second-flight to end the match.
At the time the match ended, Rachael Litton (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) was winning 6-4, 3-0 in the third-flight, and Brittany Harbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) was in the midst of a first set tiebreaker in the fourth-flight.
Bentley falls to 9-12 overall, while the Knights, who are now 13-7, will take on top-seed Stonehill in the semis on Friday.
