Adelphi Stays Unbeaten in NE-10 with 7-2 Victory over Bentley
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Adelphi women's tennis team ran its records to 14-2 overall and 10-0 in the Northeast-10 with a 7-2 victory at Bentley on Friday afternoon. Seniors Kara Murphy (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) and Brittany Harbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) won in singles for the Falcons.
Adelphi won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into the singles portion of the match. There, Murphy defeated junior Michelle Gurda in the second-flight, 6-4, 7-5, and Harbert beat sophomore Gaby Adia in the fourth-flight, 6-2, 6-4.
Junior Katie Van Gilst (Harwinton, Conn./Lewis S. Mills) of Bentley and freshman Joanna Haich of Adelphi engaged in a marathon match in the fifth-flight. Haich took the first set 6-1, but Van Gilst kept the match going by winning the second set 6-4. The two then battled in a lengthy third set with Haich eventually taking it 13-11 to earn the point for her team.
Bentley, which drops to 5-3 in the NE-10, is back in action tomorrow at noon when they host Saint Rose.
