Bentley Captures 6 of 8 NE10 Weekly Awards in Swimming & Diving

WALTHAM, Mass. – After an outstanding showing in the Gompei Invitational at WPI, members of the Bentley University swimming and diving teams were the recipients of six of the eight weekly awards handed out by the Northeast-10 Conference.

It was a complete sweep for the men with sophomore Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) the Swimmer of the Week, sophomore Jeremy Glick (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor GS) the Diver of the Week, freshman Anthony Vizental (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley HS) the Rookie of the Week and the Falcons' 800 yard free relay team the Relay Team of the Week.

Bentley also received the Women's Relay Team of the Week award and freshman Kathryn Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS) was the choice as Women's Rookie of the Week.

Zoda was part of the conference's best performance of the season in the 200 free relay (1:25.62) and the 200 medley relay (school record 1:34.22) over the weekend. He also recorded the NE10's second fastest 50 free (21.22) and 100 free (46.77) times, as well as the third fastest 400 individual medley (4:13.84). During the three-day meet, his top finishes were fourth in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay (1:31.13) and mixed 400 free relay (3:22.00), fifth place in the 200 free relay (1:25.62) and 50 breaststroke (school record 26.60), and sixth in the 200 medley relay (1:34.22).

Glick was tenth in the one-meter diving (322.30 finals, 3:43.00 prelims) and 11th off the three-meter board (3:35.95).

Vizental recorded seven swims that ranked in the top five on the season's NE10 performance list. He swam the fastest 50 butterfly (1:54.20) and was part of the number one 800 free relay (6:59.73). In addition, he had the second fastest 400 individual medley (4:09.29) and 200 free (1:45.78), the third fastest times of the year in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.28) and 500 free (4:45.60), and the fifth best 200 IM time (1:59.93). His highest finishes were third in the 400 IM, sixth in the 200 breast and 200 fly, and seventh in the 800 free relay.

Bentley swam the conference's fastest 800 free relay time of the year with the quartet of Vizental, Zoda, junior Clayton Bennice (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa HS) and senior Jarod Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS) placing seventh in 6:59.73. It was more than 22 seconds faster than the number two listing on the NE10 performance list.

Galvin broke two school records during the Gompei with times of 24.33 in the 50 freestyle and 52.34 in the 100 free. She swam the conference's fastest times of the season in the 100 free and the 50 butterfly (26.70), as well as the third best 50 free and 100 fly (58.94) times and the fifth fastest 200 free (1:56.40). Her highest finishes during the meet were second in the mixed 400 medley relay (3:43.87), 800 free relay (7:44.45) and 400 free relay (3:33.73). She was also third in the mixed 200 medley relay (1:40.94) and 100 free, as well as fourth in the mixed 200 free relay (1:31.13) and the mixed 400 free relay (3:22.00).

Bentley was second in the 400 free relay with the time of 3:33.73 second best in the NE10 this season. Sophomore Lucy Slowe (Millis/Millis HS) led off and was followed by junior Emily LaRovere (Lynnfield/Phillips Exeter Academy) and two freshmen, Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS) and Galvin.

Bentley, which doesn't compete again until after the new year, was also represented on the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll by Slowe and freshman Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS).

Huminski was fifth in the three-meter diving (371.30 finals, 372.15 prelims), sixth in the one-meter diving (356.10 finals, 387.60 prelims) and seventh in the synchronized diving.

Slowe, in addition to contributing to the team's success in the 800 free relay, posted the conference's fastest 200 free time of the year (1:54.99) and the second fastest 200 individual medley (2:09.34) and 400 free relay (3:33.73) times. She also moved to number three on the NE10 performance list in the 100 free (53.13), the 50 back (28.43) and the 100 back (58.93). Slowe's top finishes were second in the 400 free relay and mixed 400 free relay (3:33.73), third in the 200 free (1:55.54), and fourth in the mixed 200 free relay (1:31.13) and the mixed 400 free relay (3:22.00).
