Nine Members of Bentley Swimming & Diving Teams Receive Weekly Recognition from NE-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Nine members of the Bentley University swimming and diving teams were recognized today by the Northeast-10 as the Falcons swept the conference's final weekly honors before this week's NE-10 Championships.

Juniors Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) and René Faria (Caracas, Venezuela) were selected as the NE-10's Swimming Athletes of the Week while Diving Athletes of the Week went to sophomores Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) and Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) for the eighth and fifth times, respectively.

The Rookies of the Week were Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS), for the second time, and Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS), for the third time. In addition, the quartet of Faria, senior Steven Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS), junior Luke Mason (Lowell/Lowell HS) and sophomore Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) was saluted as the Men's Relay Team of the Week.

All were recognized for their efforts in a meet against Bridgewater State with the women winning 154-128 and the men 213.5-84.5.

Edwards turned in winning performances in the 500 yard freestyle and the 1000 free. Her time of 11:21.83 in the 1000 was a Bentley season-best by more than 11 seconds and her 5:30.90 in the 500 was the Falcons' second-best of the year.

Faria captured the 50 freestyle in 22.48 seconds and helped both relays place first with times of 1:50.30 in the 200 medley and 1:29.74 in the 200 free, with the latter performance garnering Faria and three of his teammates Relay of the Week honors. The quartet edged out Bentley's other relay by 0.27 seconds to prevail with the time the Falcons' fourth best of the year.

Mancini, an All-America and last year's Northeast-10 Women's Diver of the Year, remained undefeated on the season as she captured the one-meter in 286.95, her second-best score of the year, and the three-meter in 298.95, her third-best effort in that event.

Bridge had his best diving performance of the season as he posted winning and season-best scores of 283.00 (one meter) and 275.20 (three meter).

McGahie finished first in both the 100 yard individual medley (1:03.99) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12.65). She was also part of a Falcon 200 medley relay team that was third in 2:03.55.

Wilson swam to victory in the 200 yard backstroke (2:09.19) and was part of a 200 free relay team that finished second in 1:30.01.
