Southern Connecticut Slips Past Bentley 2-1 on Senior Day

WALTHAM, Mass. – Southern Connecticut's Kelsey Burr scored on a penalty kick in the 68th minute for the decisive goal in a 2-1 win for the Owls.

Prior to the game, the Falcons celebrated Senior Day and honored Athena Kordis, Emily Hartson, Mariana Varela, Ryenne Feeney, Abby Cash, Sarah St. George and Sophia Killeen.

It was an even opening 24 minutes until Burr's first goal put the Owls ahead with her 11th goal of the season. The shot came from the right side and the edge of the 18-yard box across the goal to the far post.

Just before halftime though the Falcons equalized with Bridget Gleason's 7th goal of the season in the 44th minute. Bentley gained possession in its defensive end and played the ball out of the back. A series of passes saw the ball land at the feet of Abby Cash in midfield. Cash chipped a ball forward that Gleason ran on to. Using her speed she broke in on goal ahead of the Owls defense and beat the keeper with a low shot to the far post from 20 yards away.

In the second half the Owls were given a penalty kick opportunity after a handball on the Falcons in the 18-yard box. Burr scored for her 12th of the season to give them the 2-1 lead.

Southern Connecticut was then able to see out the remaining 22-plus minutes for the win.

The Falcons will close out the regular season on Wednesday at Southern New Hampshire.
