Adelphi Advances to NE10 Semifinals with 2-1 Win over Bentley

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Senior Brooke Jones (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) scored in the 85th minute, but No. 6 seeded Bentley fell to the No. 3 seed Adelphi 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon.

Jones' goal cut the Panthers' lead in half with just under six minutes remaining, but the hosts were able to hang on the rest of the way.

The goal by Jones came after Bentley built up possession in its attacking end. Center back Jillian Hendriksen (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) had it and threaded a through ball just as Jones was making a run behind the Adelphi defense. She stayed onside and latched onto to the pass, followed by a low shot that that beat Adelphi keeper Lydia Cordoba to the far post.

Corrine Messier (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) had shot on goal after a corner kick in the 87th minute but Cordoba came up with the save.

Falcons keeper Claire Ewen (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) made two saves in final two-plus minutes and had eight for the game.

Adelphi took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alexa Mihale in the 36th minute. They went ahead 2-0 on a goal by Victoria Colatosti in the 61st.

They advanced to play Franklin Pierce in the semifinals on Thursday.

Bentley's record fell to 7-8-3. They were ranked 9th in the most recent NCAA East Region rankings.
