On This Day, 2019: Goals by Bernhardt, Guccione Lead Bentley to 2-0 Win over No. 24 SNHU

On October 22, 2019, second half goals by freshman Haley Bernhardt and junior Emma Guccione led the Bentley women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over No. 24 ranked Southern New Hampshire.

The win was the third straight for the Falcons, who improved their NE10 record to 5-5 and overall record to 6-6-1. The Penmen, who have been nationally ranked all season, saw their four-match winning streak snapped.

Bentley got the better of the first half with a 6-4 edge in shots, but neither team found the back of the net during a scoreless 45 minutes. The Falcons had the best scoring chance of the half from sophomore Dana Goulet in the eighth minute, with a low shot from distance that went just wide of the far post.

Bentley broke through just after halftime, in the 47th minute on Bernhardt's first career goal. SNHU had a throw-in in the Falcons' end, and Bentley pressured them into a turnover. Marissa Burns picked up the loose ball and fed a short pass to Bernhardt. After a couple of dribbles to create space, she ripped a shot from about 22 yards away to the top corner of the right post.

Bentley added to its 1-0 lead in the 67th minute on Guccione's second goal of the year. The goal came as SNHU attempted to play the ball out of Bentley's end, but was pressured into a turnover by senior Kelly Donlon. After a short pass to Guccione, she blasted a shot to the top corner of the near post from about 25 yards out.

The 2-0 lead was all they needed to close out the rest of the game and secure the win.
