On This Day, 2017: Kent’s OT Goal Lifts Bentley Past Southern Connecticut, 2-1

On October 14, 2017, Bentley University senior forward Peyton Kent scored in the 103rd minute to give the Falcon women's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime road victory over Southern Connecticut State.

Kent's goal came on top of a late equalizer by Falcons sophomore Stephanie Helin, who scored in the 84th minute to level the match 1-1 and send it to OT. Helin's goal came just about 10 minutes after Southern Conn scored the game's first goal in the 74th minute from Victoria Buonanni, after the teams had been locked in scoreless tie for most of the afternoon.

Helin's goal came after she took a pass in the penalty area from junior Brandi McDonald. Her shot got past the Southern Conn keeper to the bottom right corner of the net for her third goal of the season, and McDonald's fourth assist.

Helin had another shot in the 88th minute that was saved by SCSU keeper Gabrielle Arruda.

In the first overtime, Bentley's freshman goalkeeper Kat Hassapis saved a shot from Rossella Graniero in the 94th minute. The only other shot of the first overtime period came from Bentley's Sammy Millman, which went wide.

In the second overtime period, Kent won it for the Falcons just under three minutes in, on the first shot of the period. Freshman Emma Guccione had the assist, setting Kent up for a shot from five yards out for the winning goal.

It was the second overtime winner of Kent's career, following one in the second OT against AIC in 2016.

Hassapis, who made her 2nd straight start, made nine saves to earn her first career victory.
