Bentley Boosts Playoff Hopes with 3-1 Win at Saint Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Bentley University gave a big boost to its Northeast-10 playoff hopes with a 3-1 win at Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon. Seniors Paige Laliberte (Gilford, N.H./Gilford HS), Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) and Peyton Kent (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan HS) had the goals.

Bentley entered the day just outside of the top-eight, but is now tied for 8th place with Pace on 17 points. However, the Setters are currently in action against New Haven. Bentley though has two NE-10 matches left, and will have a game in-hand on Pace who has one left after today.

After a scoreless first half, Bentley got on the board in the 50th minute on a goal by Laliberte, the first of her career after she has played goalie in first three seasons at Bentley. Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) had the assist after she first took a shot that was blocked, and Laliberte shot in the rebound.

In the 69th minute, Tantum extended Bentley's lead to 2-0 with her 10th goal of the season, after she fired in a shot from the left wing to the far post. Her 10 goals this season is the most by a Bentley player in a single-season since 1996, and was her 28th career goal, which moved her into a tie for 2nd in the program's history.

Saint Michael's got back in the match with a 73rd minute goal from Lauren Dunn, but Bentley put the match away on Kent's goal in the 85th minute. Valente set the goal up with a pass across the box, and Kent did the rest with a right-footed strike into the left corner of the net.

Kent's goal provided the match's final 3-1 margin.

Bentley improved to 5-5-2 in the Northeast-10 with the victory. They now play its final two matches of the season at home, starting with AIC on Wednesday at 3:00 pm
