Bentley Jumps on Dowling Early, Coasts to 3-0 Win

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Three first half goals, coming in the first 28 minutes, propelled Bentley to a 3-0 victory over Dowling Sunday afternoon in the closing match of the Molloy Kickoff Classic. Junior forward Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) had a goal and an assist.

Tantum set the first goal up from freshman Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) with a pass into the 18 yard box that saw Valente turn a fire a shot in the left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.

Another freshman, Christine Hoynack (Miami, Fla./Lourdes Academy) made it 2-0 in the 21st minute. After a Dowling turnover, Hoynack controlled the ball and lofted a shot from nearly 35 yards out into the back of the net to give the Falcons a 2-nil lead.

Tantum then scored herself in the 28th minute, her 11th career goal, to put Bentley up big, and they maintained that lead the rest of the way

Sophomore keeper Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) made four saves to earn the win.

Now 1-0-1 on the season after going unbeaten this weekend, Bentley will prepare for its home opener on Wednesday when they take on Concordia (N.Y.) at 4:00 pm.
