Dempsey’s Two Goals Leads New Haven Past Bentley

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Rachel Dempsey scored two second half goals in leading New Haven to a 2-0 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 play Saturday night at Kayo Field.

The teams were scoreless through the first 54-plus minutes until Dempsey broke the deadlock with her first of the night at the 53:41 mark, with the assist coming from junior Kelly Blank. Dempsey took a cross in from Blank in the middle of the penalty area and fired her shot in for the goal.

Dempsey then made it 2-0 in the 65th minute off a corner kick. The kick from New Haven fell to the ground, but Dempsey emerged from the scramble with the ball at her foot and struck home for the second time.

The Chargers (3-3, 2-1) have now won two of their last three. Bentley (2-4, 0-3) is back in action Tuesday afternoon when they travel up to Vermont to face Saint Michael's at 3:30 pm.
