Leary Sends Bentley To 2-1 OT Win Over AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Deirdre Leary (Holden, Mass./St. Peter Marian) scored in the 103rd minute to give the Bentley women's soccer team a 2-1 overtime victory over AIC and to keep them in the Northeast-10 playoff hunt with two games remaining.

The Falcons improve 6-9-1 overall and 5-7-1 in the NE-10 for 16 points, and will enter the final week of the regular season within striking distance of a playoff spot with home games against Southern New Hampshire and Saint Rose upcoming. AIC falls to 5-9-2 and 4-7-2

Leary's goal, her second of the season, came 2:30 into the second overtime to give Bentley the win. Freshman goalie Christiana Hynds (West Roxbury, Mass./Boston Latin) made 11 saves, her second highest total of the season. Nine of those saves came in regulation and two were in the first overtime. It's her fifth win of the campaign.

Junior Molly Alfieri (Southington, Conn./Southington) put the Falcons in front after just six minutes, her third goal of 2011.

Bentley held onto its slim lead well into the second half, until senior Sarah Boornazian equalized for the Yellow Jackets in the 70th minute with sophomore Caroline Boyce on the assist. That was the last goal of regulation and the match went into OT tied 1-1.

Next, the Falcons will host Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday at 3:30 before hosting Saint Rose next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the regular season finale.
