Late Goals by Leary, Skagerlind Help Bentley Rally Past Le Moyne, 2-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Deirdre Leary (Holden, Mass./St. Peter Marian) and sophomore Jenna Skagerlind (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) scored late second half goals as Bentley University overcame a 1-0 deficit to beat Le Moyne 2-1 Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 women's soccer play.

With the Falcons trailing by a goal as full-time approached, they were awarded a free-kick after a Dolphins foul. The kick deflected off a Le Moyne player and Leary capitalized from five yards out to pull them level in the 73rd minute.

With less than four minutes remaining Skagerlind scored her first goal as a Falcon, which proved to be the game-winner. She scored from 30 yards out, launching a shot over the head of Dolphins keeper Felicia Tynan.

Le Moyne outshot Bentley 12-5 in the first half, but freshman goalie Christiana Hynds (West Roxbury, Mass./Boston Latin) kept them close with five saves and only conceded a 13th minute goal to Christie Morano.

Bentley clamped down defensively in the second half and the shots evened out to six apiece, with Hynds making three more stops over the final 45 minutes. She made eight saves total and earned her second win of the year.

The Falcons pick up their second win of the season and are now 2-1 overall, and even their NE-10 record to 1-1. The Dolphins fall to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the NE-10.

Bentley is back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host Saint Michael's for an NE-10 encounter at 3:00 p.m.
