No. 18 Bentley’s Rally Runs Out of Time at No. 2 Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 18 ranked Bentley closed with a 5-1 run at No. 2 Le Moyne, but ran out of time as the Dolphins hung on for a 15-11 victory in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons trailed 14-6 after a goal by Le Moyne's Molly McGuane at the 17:40 mark. But following a timeout Bentley picked it up and began to reel off four straight goals in the span of six minutes. Senior Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) had two of the goals as part of a hat trick on the day for her. She scored the opening goal of the run at the 16:21 mark and also added a man-up goal with 10:47 to play.

Following Howard's goal, midfielder Meredith Hart (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored just 19 seconds later off a free-position shot to trim the team's deficit to just 14-10. Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) also had a free-position goal during the run.

Both teams proceeded to trade possession as time ticked down, and Le Moyne was able to drain enough time off the clock to make a further comeback attempt for Bentley difficult. Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) converted a free-position attempt to make it 14-11 with 2:46 remaining, but that was the Falcons' last goal.

In the first half, the Dolphins opened up a 4-1 lead before two straight goals by Hart and O'Connor made it 4-3 at the midway point. Le Moyne though embarked on a 4-0 run over the final five minutes of the half, before Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) scored with just 7 seconds left for Bentley to get them to within 8-4 at halftime.

The defeat snaps Bentley's two game winning streak, but they'll get a chance to get back in the win column on Tuesday night with a home game against Pace.
