KISSIMMEE, Fla. – No. 11 Stonehill used a 5-0 run to start the second half on its way to a 15-8 victory over the Bentley women's lacrosse team to snap the Falcons' unbeaten start to the season. Junior Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) had a hat trick for Bentley.
Stonehill's run turned a 6-4 game at halftime into an 11-4 lead. Bentley would get to within six goals on three different occasions in the second half, but could not get any closer. The Falcons fall to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Skyhawks improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
O'Connor and junior Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) scored Bentley's first two goals of the night and the game was tied 2-2 after 10 minutes. But a 4-0 Stonehill run gave them a 6-2 lead with 9:49 left in the first half, before the Falcons closed the half with goals from senior Jessica Ferrigno (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) and Howard to make it 6-4 at the break.
O'Connor scored her second and third goals of the game in the second half, and freshman Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) and Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) also scored.
Bentley concludes its Florida trip on Thursday when they take on LIU Post at 7:00 pm in Orlando.
