Thompson Selected for WBCA So You Want To Be A Coach Class

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) has been selected for the 21st "So You Want To Be A Coach" class by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Thompson and the other 29 student-athletes who were selected will participate in a two-day workshop on April 4 and 5 during the WBCA Convention in Cleveland.

"We are so thrilled that Ella got selected for the "So You Want To Be a Coach" program," said Bentley head coach C White. "Ella has always been a student of the game, constantly wanting to better herself, learn and grow. She can be a fantastic coach one day and we are so thrilled she will learn top-notch coaching tips, techniques and X's and O's from the best of the best in women's basketball at the 2024 WBCA Convention."

The "So" program increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.

"The WBCA community of coaches each year invests in young, aspiring coaches through the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "We have high expectations for these graduating student-athletes and the future contributions they will make to the game of women's basketball."

Thompson, who reached the 1,000-point plateau earlier this season and has since surpassed 1,100, is nine assists away from becoming only the second Bentley women's basketball player with at least 200 career three-pointers and 300 assists.

This season, Thompson is averaging 10.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists for the Falcons, who are 19-2 overall, in first place in the Northeast-10 and ranked eighth nationally in the latest WBCA Division II coaches poll.

Academically, Thompson is pursuing her MBA with a concentration in leadership.
