Le Moyne Ousts Bentley From 1st-Place Tie in NE10, 53-38

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior guard Lytola Baker (Rochester, N.Y.) had 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds as Le Moyne College shut down Bentley University, 53-38, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon on Ted Grant Court.

Bentley, which dropped to 12-6 overall and 9-3 in the conference, fell out of a first-place tie in the conference into third. Le Moyne improved to 13-5 overall and 8-4 NE10.

The Le Moyne defense kept the Falcons in check all afternoon with Bentley shooting just 24.6 percent, a season-low. That included just 7 of 31 in the second half, including only 1 of 13 from outside the arc.

Despite scoring only two points in the third quarter, Bentley found itself down by only four, 34-30, with 7:30 left in the game after junior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) scored the first five points of the fourth.

However, Le Moyne countered by scoring the game's next six points, including two lay-ups from redshirt sophomore forward Haedyn Roberts (Holland Patent, N.Y.). That made it a 40-30 game midway through the final stanza.

Bentley was forced to foul down the stretch and the Dolphins took advantage by making 11 of 14 over the final 3:30.

Le Moyne had the lead at each quarter break, leading 14-13 after one, 24-23 at the half and 34-25 after the third.

Whitmore, who scored eight of her 11 points in the fourth, made five of her seven shots and also had eight rebounds and two blocks. She was limited by foul trouble to 21 minutes.

Next on the scoring list for Bentley was freshman guard Cassidy Yeomans (Marion, Mass./Tabor Academy), with two three-pointers for six points.

Bentley's defense kept Le Moyne in check for most of the afternoon with the Dolphins shooting only 32 percent and making only five of 17 three-pointers.

Le Moyne had a rebound advantage, 45-42, and turned it over only 10 times, three less than the Falcons.

In addition to Baker, Le Moyne received double-figure scoring from Roberts and redshirt freshman guard Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y.). Each finished with 10 points.

Bentley will look to end its two-game slide on Wednesday when it will host Saint Anselm College.
