Bentley Visits Le Moyne Saturday for Matchup of 12-5 Teams

WALTHAM, Mass. – Both the Bentley University women's basketball team and the Le Moyne College Dolphins own 12-5 overall records heading into Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference matchup, slated for 1 pm on the Ted Grant Court in Syracuse, N.Y. Fans can watch on the NE10 NOW Digital Network (www.NE10NOW.tv).

Bentley, which had its six-game winning streak snapped on a last-second basket by New Haven Wednesday, is in a three-way tie for first in the conference. The Falcons are 9-2 in action, matching Assumption and Southern New Hampshire, both teams that they've beaten this season.

Meanwhile, Le Moyne is tied with American International for fourth place with the Dolphins' 7-4 conference record placing them two games back of the tri-leaders. Coming off a 74-63 win at Southern Connecticut, Le Moyne has won seven of its last eight, the lone loss being a four-pointer against Pace.

The Bentley defense, ranked second in the conference, has limited the opposition to 43.6 points over the last seven games with the 51 scored by New Haven in Wednesday's two-point loss the most yielded during that span. The opposition has been limited to shooting percentages of .322 overall, .196 from three and .590 free throws.

The Bentley starters couldn't get untracked against New Haven, totaling only 18 points, but the bench had a strong performance. Freshmen posts Julia Elie (Rockland/Rockland HS) and Ciara Norman (Roebling, N.J./Life Center Academy), each of whom has been a recipient of a conference Rookie of the Week award, scored eight and seven points respectively. Norman also had eight rebounds, the fourth time in the last six games she's done that.

Freshman guard Cassidy Yeomans (Marion/Tabor Academy) pitched in with two three-pointers, giving her 15 in 32 attempts (.469) this season.

Bentley's offense is led by junior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS). She leads the team in scoring (11.2), rebounds (6.8), assists (43) and free throw accuracy (.923). Her seven points against New Haven snapped a string of eight consecutive games in double-figures.

Graduate guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) follows with a 10.2 scoring average and senior guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) is next at 9.8. Brekke is second in the conference in three-point accuracy (.457) and is also number two in makes (37).

Four Le Moyne players have started every game and each owns a scoring average of ten or more. Heading that list is redshirt sophomore forward Hayden Roberts, who has elevated her scoring average from 3.7 last year to 13.2. She shoots 49 percent overall, nearly 88 percent at the line and collects 8.1 rebounds a game.

Other Dolphins to be concerned with are senior guard Lytoya Baker (12.9 PPG, 87% FT, 33 steals), redshirt freshman guard Sydney Lusher (11.5 PPG, 30 3's, 31 steals) and freshman guard Kaia Goode (10.0 PPG, 43 steals).

Le Moyne leads the Northeast-10 in scoring at 67.2, is second in steals (10.1) and is fourth in turnovers forced (17.4).

Bentley, 31-8 all-time against Le Moyne, ended a five-game losing streak to the Dolphins last March with a 57-47 win in the Northeast-10 semifinals. The Falcons closed with a 12-4 run over the final 5:20 and limited the home team to 27 percent shooting. Autumn Ceppi and Brekke each scored 16 points and Ceppi also had 14 rebounds.

Next week, Bentley will host Saint Anselm on Wednesday and will play at Southern Connecticut State Saturday.
