No. 13 Bentley Continues String of Road Games Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire

WALTHAM, Mass. – Off to a 3-0 start, the Bentley University women's basketball team will continue its season-opening string of six straight games away from home Tuesday night when the Falcons take on Southern New Hampshire University at the Stan Spirou Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 5:30 and the game will be streamed on the NE10 Digital Network.

Each of the first three wins for coach C White's team has been decided by double figures, including last Wednesday's 72-52 victory at Saint Anselm. The Falcons have a +19.7 scoring margin, a +9.7 rebound margin and have limited Bloomfield, Caldwell and Saint Anselm to a .322 field goal percentage.

Southern New Hampshire, which hosted the NCAA Division II East Regional last March, has played three nailbiters thus far and is off to a 2-1 start. The Penmen edged Saint Anselm by one, lost in overtime to Dominican and were three points better than Southern Connecticut State on Saturday.

Through three games, junior Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) has been Bentley's top scorer, rebounder and assist maker.  The six-footer is averaging 12.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals while shooting .517 overall.

The usual starting five also includes six-two senior Bri Gillen (Lakeville/Bishop Feehan HS), sophomore guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) and the All-Conference backcourt duo of grad student Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) and senior Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS).

Brekke and Thompson are both averaging just over ten points a game. Brekke is 6 of 14 from outside the arc and Thompson is third in rebounding (6.0). Gillen and Kabantu have both produced six points a game so far.

Off the bench, freshman guard Cassidy Yeomans (Marion/Tabor Academy) has made five of seven three-pointers and classmate Julia Elie (Rockland/Rockland HS) is this week's NE10 Rookie of the Week. Both scored in double-figures Wednesday at Saint Anselm.

For Southern New Hampshire, six-two junior Jess Knight and senior guard Adriana Timberlake are two of the conference's top five scorers in the early going. Knight is averaging 18 points and 10.3 rebounds and Timberlake follows at 17.3 points. She also has 16 rebounds and ten assists so far.

Rebounds and success at the free throw line have been factors in SNHU's 2-1 start. The Penmen have a +6.0 rebound margin and have outscored their opponents at the line, 48-32, while shooting at an .800 clip.

Southern New Hampshire swept the season series from Bentley last year, winning both by 12 games, after the Falcons did the same to the Penmen in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Bentley, in the all-time series, owns a 45-8 record.

Following the second trip to Manchester in a week, Bentley will get ready to spend Thanksgiving weekend in Florida with games at Eckerd College Saturday and Saint Leo University Sunday. Both teams are off to 3-0 starts.
