Elie Named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University freshman forward Julia Elie (Rockland/Rockland HS) has been named the Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference following her strong performance in the Falcons' 72-52 win at Saint Anselm College.

In the Falcons' only game of the week, Elie made six of nine shots for a career-best 12 points and also recorded five rebounds and two assists as Bentley improved to 3-0.

Three games into her collegiate career, the former Boston Globe All-Scholastic and Boston Herald Dream Team selection is averaging 5.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists. Elie had 11 rebounds in her Bentley debut, a 75-47 win over Bloomfield, with nine of those coming at the offensive end.

Also recognized, with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll, was graduate guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS). In the Saint Anselm win, she amassed 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and a +29. Brekke made five of six field goal attempts, two of three from deep and both her free throws against the Hawks.

Brekke, who has 940 career points, has twice been named to the All-Northeast-10 third team.

Bentley, ranked 13th in the preseason WBCA Division II coaches poll, is off to a 3-0 start. The Falcons play three times this week, including Tuesday night at Southern New Hampshire University.
