3-Game Week for Bentley Women’s Basketball Tips Off Tuesday at Adelphi

WALTHAM, Mass. – A three-game week for the first place Bentley University women's basketball team will get underway Tuesday when the Falcons visit surging Adelphi University. Game time at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City, N.Y. is set for 5 pm with a web stream available on the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

Coach C White's team will back at home Thursday, with a 5:30 pm contest against Stonehill College, before returning to the road to take on St. Michael's College Saturday afternoon. The Stonehill game was moved from Wednesday to Thursday after the game with Adelphi was postponed from Saturday due to this past weekend's storm.

Bentley, 10-4 overall and 8-2 Northeast-10, will head to Long Island riding a three-game winning streak and 5-1 in its last six contests. Most recently, the Falcons upended No. 22 Pace 75-55, the team's third straight victory by at least 20 points.

They'll be taking on an Adelphi team that has won six in a row, a run that includes four victories in one-possession games, including 56-54 at Southern New Hampshire Thursday. The Panthers also defeated Saint Anselm by three, New Haven by one and Franklin Pierce by a single point.

Bentley heads into the three-game week leading the NE10 Northeast Division by one-and-a-half games over Southern New Hampshire (which plays Southern Connecticut tonight) and two over Saint Anselm.  On the other hand, Adelphi (10-8 overall, 8-5 NE10) is third in the Southwest Division, three games in the loss column back of Le Moyne.

In the impressive win over Pace last week, Bentley shot 49 percent overall, made 8 of 12 three-pointers, turned the ball over a season-low ten times and led from start to finish for the third straight game.

Four of five starters scored in doubles with freshman guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/ Portland HS) Bentley's top scorer for the second straight game. She scored 14, following her career-high 22 in the previous game against American International. Graduate forward Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall School), sophomore guard Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and junior guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) followed with 13, 12 and 11 markers.

Thompson, 8 of 10 from downtown, in the last two games, leads Bentley in scoring at 13.6. Also in doubles for the season are Ceppi, at 12.6 and a team-best 7.1 rebounds, and senior guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS), at 10.4.

Adelphi, which has won five of seven on its home court under first-year head coach and former Panther standout Sade Jackson, has been impressive in the opening quarter, outscoring the opponents by 73 points a game. They haven't had the same success over the final three stanzas with their opponents owning an 87-point scoring advantage.

Grad student and 5-11 guard Emily Miccile leads Adelphi in scoring with a 13.4 average. She's also been the top rebounder on the team (6.8) and is a force defensively, with 36 steals and a conference-best 32 blocks.

The Panthers are 8-2 since senior guard Ty Hawkins moved into the starting lineup. She has boosted her average to 9.9 after scoring 16 points in each of the last three games.

Bentley has not had much success against Adelphi in recent years with the Panthers winning five of the last seven meetings, including 85-70 two years ago in Waltham. The Falcons prevailed 67-53 in their most recent trip to the CSR, in January 2019.
