Bentley Women Return Home to Take On Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – After a pair of road losses over the weekend during the Valdosta State Thanksgiving Classic, the Bentley University women's basketball team will be back at home for the first time in 19 days Wednesday night for a 5:30 pm encounter with Assumption University. Fans who can't attend can watch the game on NE10 NOW.

Before the trip to Georgia, coach C White's team picked up a pair of Northeast-10 victories, 67-60 over Saint Anselm and 62-51 at Stonehill. Those two teams faced off against each other in the 2020 NE10 championship game.

Assumption is off to a 4-2 start, including 1-2 NE10, after road victories over Dominican (N.Y.) and Mercy this past weekend.

The Falcons will be looking to bounce back from losses to Eckerd and Valdosta State, two programs who have a combined record of 7-1 to date.  Bentley didn't shoot well in Georgia, connecting at just a 35 percent clip.

Junior guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS), the 2019-20 NE10 Rookie of the Year, was the Falcons' top scorer down south, putting up 13 and 18 points. She's taken over the team lead in scoring with a 12.8 average.

The other double-figure scorers for the Falcons are senior guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) and graduate forward Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall HS), at 12.4 and 10.8 respectively. Brekke is among the NE10 leaders in steals with 11, and Ceppi has shown why she was selected to last year's Patriot League All-Defensive Team. She is tied with senior guard Kolleen Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) for the team lead in blocks (8) and also has seven steals.

Sophomore Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) is second to Ceppi on the team in rebounds (5.4) while also scoring nearly seven a game.

Assumption, which turns the ball over nearly 21 times a game, is led by graduate guard Meghan Cramb. She's shooting 45 percent from outside the arc while scoring 12.8 points a game.

The Hounds other double-figure scorer is junior forward Monica Spain. She has a .576 field goal percentage as well as averages of 10.4 points, six rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals.

Bentley has swept the season series from Assumption the last four years and leads the all-time series 76-10. In the most recent meeting, the Falcons prevailed in overtime, 80-73. That game featured a career-high 23 points from Thompson.

The Falcons will also be at home on Saturday for a 1 pm encounter with Franklin Pierce.
