Bentley, Stonehill Renew Acquaintances Tuesday in Easton

WALTHAM, Mass. – Arguably the premier rivalry in New England women's basketball, the Bentley University Falcons and the Stonehill University Skyhawks will meet for the 113th time Tuesday evening at Stonehill's Merkert Gymnasium. Game time is 5:30 pm and it will be streamed on the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

Bentley, which took over the top spot from Stonehill in this week's D2SIDA Division II East Region poll, will take a 2-0 record into the game after last week's come-from-behind 67-60 win at Saint Anselm in its NE10 opener.

Stonehill, ranked 13th nationally preseason, was upended by St. Michael's Saturday in its season and conference opener. The Purple Knights knocked down 11 of 21 three-pointers, had a 14-8 free throw advantage and saw the Skyhawks misfire on two triples in the final ten seconds.

Senior guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) is off to a strong start to the season for Bentley. She is shooting 77 percent overall and has made eight of 11 three-pointers while averaging 21 points.

Graduate forward Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall School) has averaged 14 points in her first two Bentley games, and junior guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) has made five of ten treys while averaging 12 points.

Stonehill, in its opener, received 26 points and eight assists from senior guard Emily Bramante in its opener. Senior forward Kayla Raymond, a first-team All-Northeast-10 honoree two years ago, added 16 points off the bench.

Bentley has won ten of the last 12 meetings between the two rivals and leads the all-time series 73-39.

The Stonehill game will be the first of three in five days for the Falcons, who'll be heading to Valdosta, Ga. a Thanksgiving Classic this weekend. They'll play Eckerd College Friday afternoon and  Valdosta State Saturday at noon. Both games will be streamed with the link posted at https://bentleyfalcons.com/sports/wbkb/2021-22/schedule.
