Bentley Begins Difficult Road Stretch Wednesday at Saint Anselm

WALTHAM, Mass. – With one lopsided victory under their belts, C White and her Bentley University women's basketball team will begin a difficult four-game stretch Wednesday night when they play their Northeast-10 Conference opener at Saint Anselm College. The 5:30 pm game at Stoutenburgh Gym can be viewed on NE10 NOW.

After facing the Hawks, the Falcons will have five days off before taking on Stonehill College on the road next Tuesday. That will be followed by a Thanksgiving Classic in Valdosta, Ga. against Eckerd College and Valdosta State. All but Eckerd are ranked nationally in this week's D2SIDA Division II media poll.

Saint Anselm is off to a 2-0 start with wins over Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan, the latter coming in overtime. Two years ago, they earned an NCAA Division II tournament bid after a 21-7 season.

Bentley, number 22 in the WBCA Division II preseason coaches' poll, set a school record for field goal percentage in the win over Carlow with their .677 accuracy mark including 14 of 24 from three-point land. 35 of their 42 field goals were assisted with all ten Falcons who saw action recording at least one.

Senior guard and co-captain Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) and graduate forward Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall) combined for 40 points with each missing only one field goal attempt. Brekke had a career-best 24 with six three-pointers and Ceppi put up 16 points in 18 minutes. A member of the Patriot League All-Defense team last year while at Bucknell, she showed why with three blocks and two steals.

Junior guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) hit three triples and handed out seven assists, and freshman guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double in her collegiate debut. Off the bench, senior guard Hartlee Meier (Southington, Conn./Marianapolis HS) buried four from downtown for a career-high 12 points.

Leading the Hawks to their first two wins were sophomore guard Gabby Turco and senior Peyton Steinman, with averages of 18.0 and 15.5, respectively. Turco's performance earned her Rookie of the Week honors in the conference and Steinman was a first-team All-NE10 honoree in 2019-20.

The only other returning starter for Saint Anselm is junior guard Mary Spinks, who averaged 39 minutes and 8.4 points over the weekend.

Bentley and Saint Anselm split the season series two years ago with each winning at home.
