Lewis, Lux & McConnell to Serve as Bentley Women’s Basketball Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. – Seniors Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England), Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/ Thornton Academy) and Amy McConnell (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) will serve as captains of the 2018-19 Bentley University women's basketball team.

"They all bring uniquely different personalities to the task of leading the team which will benefit all of our players," said coach Barbara Stevens.  "During the preseason, they have been role models, exhibiting a great work ethic and communication, two of our most important values. The tone they have set will give us a strong foundation as we prepare for a competitive season."

Lewis, after an injury that sidelined her during the 2016-17 season and affected her play much of last season, came on strong during the 2018 postseason, averaging 16.6 points and eight rebounds while shooting .542 overall and making 13 of 29 three-pointers. Overall last winter, she provided 7.1 points and 4.6 rebounds a game.

"Megan is an extremely smart basketball player with a tremendous feel for the game," said Stevens. "She is a talented offensive player for sure, but what sometimes goes unnoticed is her ability to defend multiple positions.  We're looking for Megan to be a force at both ends of the floor this season."

Lux is a returning first-team All-Northeast-10 honoree who lead the Falcons in scoring (13.4), rebounds (9.3) and blocks (28) a year ago. She led the conference in offensive rebounds (106) and averaged a double-double in regular season conference games.

"Victoria is a dominant low post player who has proven to be one of the best players in the NE-10," praised Stevens. "Her strength and explosiveness in the low post make her tough to defend.  Victoria is determined to help her team by being the best she can be this season and is working very hard toward that goal."

McConnell, a guard who was one of four Falcons to appear in every game a year ago, enters her final season with 60 three-pointers and a .377 accuracy mark from downtown that ranks tenth in program history. Last year, as part of a deep backcourt, she averaged 2.5 points and 13.5 minutes.

"Amy has blossomed into a strong, athletic, skilled guard and is ready to play major minutes for us this season," commented Stevens. "One of the team's best defenders, Amy has a competitiveness that is second to none. Her intensity, focus and drive makes her a great leader and a great teammate."

Bentley, ranked eighth in Division II preseason after a 28-4 record in 2017-18, opens the season this weekend at the Merrimack Conference Challenge. The Falcons will play Concordia (N.Y.) Friday at 7:30 and Georgian Court Saturday at 7.
