Gemma Named Spalding Northeast-10 Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University senior All-America Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after her outstanding play in a pair of wins last week.

This is the first time this season that Gemma has been recognized and the ninth time in her career.

In wins over Stonehill College and Assumption College, Gemma averaged 20 points, 14 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and a block while shooting 52 percent overall and making 10 of 11 free throws. She had a season-high 28 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks, helping Bentley rally for a 63-56 win over Stonehill, and 12 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists in a 73-57 victory at Assumption.

Gemma broke the Bentley record for career field goal attempts, surpassing Lauren Battista, while moving closer to becoming only the fourth player in NE10 history to amass both 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, and the first in the last 20 years. The six-foot forward will enter Wednesday's home game with Southern New Hampshire 20 points and two rebounds shy of those marks.

Second on Bentley's all-time scoring list and third in career rebounds, Gemma is averaging 18.3 points and 8.4 rebounds for the 19-4 Falcons, who are one win away from wrapping up the NE10 Northeast Division title outright.

In the NE10, Gemma ranks fourth in scoring, fifth in free throw percentage, sixth in rebounds and eighth in field goal percentage.
