Piromalli earns a win and a save, Grizzaffi homers at SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sabrina Grizzaffi went yard, and Riley Piromalli allowed just one earned run in 9.2 total innings to lead the Bentley softball team to a couple of big 2-1 victories at Southern New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon.

Bentley 2, SNHU 1

Grizzaffi broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning by launching her second home run of the season as the Falcons won the first game of the doubleheader, 2-1.

Jordan Krause reached base with a one-out single in the sixth. Two batters later, Grizzaffi stepped to the plate and delivered a homer over the left-field fence.

Piromalli earned the victory by tossing her 12th complete game of the season. She allowed just two hits through the first five innings, at one point retiring 10 consecutive batters.

Morgan Fraitzl finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate, marking the freshman's third multi-hit game this spring.

Gabriella Longo had two hits, and Payton Doiron earned the victory in the circle as the Falcons won the second game, 2-1.

Bentley wasted little time in scoring a run this time around. Kylee Amato led off the first inning by reaching base on an error, Longo hit a single, and Krause drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out. Next up, Fraitzl came through with an RBI single to put the Falcons ahead, 1-0.

From there, neither team scored until the fifth inning.

Long led off with a walk, and she was immediately followed by a Krause single. The next two at-bats resulted in outs, but Lauren Massry came up clutch with an RBI base hit that scored Longo.

The Penmen cut Bentley's lead in half, 2-1, in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Piromalli came out of the bullpen to shut the door on SNHU through the game's final 2.2 innings.

After playing eight consecutive road games, the Falcons return home for Senior Day Saturday, April 20, as they host Franklin Pierce for a doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m.
