Bentley takes on SNHU Wednesday, celebrates seniors Saturday

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley softball team celebrates its senior class this weekend, but not before a midweek Northeast-10 doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire Wednesday, April 17, starting at 2 p.m. The Falcons host Franklin Pierce Saturday (April 20), and St. Michael's Sunday (April 21).

 

Elite 8

Before the start of Saturday's games against Franklin Pierce, the Falcons will celebrate their eight seniors: Kylee Amato, Jacqueline Cupoli, Payton Doiron, Morgan Fraitzl, Sabrina Grizzaffi, Samantha Hess, Gabriella Longo, and Lauren Massry.

 

Keeping it in the yard

The Bentley pitching staff has surrendered the fewest home runs (3) so far this season. The group has a 3.65 ERA, led by Riley Piromalli's 2.80 ERA in 102.2 IP. Payton Doiron carries a 3.96 ERA through 69.0 innings in the circle.

 

April powers

Since the start of April, Sabrina Grizzaffi has tallied at least one hit in 10 of 12 games. She is hitting .390 during that stretch, and she holds a .323 batting average overall this season.

 

Krause keeps crushing

Jordan Krause – Bentley's all-time leader in home runs – has homered four times this season. All of those home runs have come since April 1, including a walkoff homer against Southern Connecticut (April 7). Krause is up to 15 career home runs.

 

Longo goes long

Gabriella Longo hit her first home run of the season – and the second of her career – at Pace this past weekend (April 14). She enters this week's slate of games with a .375 batting average in the month of April.

 

Scouting Southern New Hampshire (19-13, 8-4 NE10)

The Penmen have won eight of their last nine games, and they sit in fourth place in the NE10. Mackenzie Bruggeman's 28 RBI rank third in the NE10, and she ranks second in home runs with six. The SNHU pitching staff has a 2.67 ERA, led by Leine McKechnie's 2.20 ERA through 73.1 IP.

 

Scouting Franklin Pierce (20-10, 7-5 NE10)

The Ravens have won seven of their last eight games. They take on Saint Anselm Thursday (April 18) before traveling to Waltham Saturday. Ashley Cangiano leads the NE10 in RBI (34), and her five home runs rank third. Sabrina Gonzalez's 1.41 ERA is fourth in the conference, her 10 wins currently rank as the fourth-best mark in the NE10. As a team, Franklin Pierce leads the NE10 in hitting with a .319 batting average. Its .459 slugging percentage also paces the conference.

 

Scouting St. Michael's (8-18, 4-8 NE10)

The Purple Knights finished March with an 11-game losing streak, but they are 4-4 in April. Overall, the team ranks third-to-last in the NE10 for hitting (.253) and slugging (.328). Jenna Devens' .405 batting average is the second-best mark in the conference. She also has three home runs and 19 RBI. CJ Davidson has a team-high 76.1 innings pitched while holding a 4.22 ERA.
