Bentley Erupts for 8 in the 7th for 8-5 Game 2 Win and Doubleheader Sweep of Le Moyne

WALTHAM, Mass. – Playing on its new turf field for the first time, the Bentley University softball team erupted for eight runs in the top of the seventh to gain an 8-5 game two win and complete a sweep of Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference softball Monday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action. In game one, the Falcons held on for a 5-4 victory.

The Falcons' second sweep in as many days gave Bentley a 4-0 conference record and an overall record of 13-7. Le Moyne, officially the home team as the games were relocated from Syracuse due to weather, dropped to 11-12 overall and 0-2 NE10.

Bentley entered the seventh inning trailing 5-0 after leaving nine runners on base during the first six innings. However, the Falcons parlayed five hits, three walks, a hit batter, a bases-loaded wild pitch and a costly throwing error into the big inning.

Sophomore designated player/pitcher Dahlia Fink (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS) and senior first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS) scored the fourth and fifth runs on the error and a two-run single by senior center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) put the Falcons in front, 7-5.

The inning also included an RBI single by Fink, a bases-loaded walk drawn by Mankins and an RBI single by junior left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS).

Junior righty Payton Doiron (Beacon Falls, Conn./St. Joseph HS), coming off a no-hitter Sunday against Saint Rose, was the winning pitcher in both games. She pitched the first five-plus innings of the opener, came back for a 1-2-3 seventh and returned to the center circle for the final two innings of game two. In her three stints in the circle, she struck ten in eight innings while allowing four hits and three runs.

In game one, Bentley jumped in front with three runs in the first inning. Fink had a two-run double and scored on a single to right by Mankins.

In the fifth, Krause led off with an infield single and scored two pitchers later on a two-run homer to left by graduate catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS), her first of the season.

Bentley totaled 20 hits in the doubleheader, including two in each game by Krause, the owner of a sizzling .486 batting average. Petow and Fink each had three hits on the day.

For Le Moyne, senior first baseman McKenzie Bergdoll (Attleboro) had two hits and three RBI in each games. Included was a two-run homer in the fifth inning of the opener that brought the Dolphins within one in the sixth.

Bentley has two home doubleheaders coming up, Friday against Adelphi University and Sunday against Pace University.
