Adelphi Sweeps Bentley, 5-0 and 2-1, on Long Island

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Junior Claire Fon (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) pitched a game-one three-hit shutout and sophomore Lindsey Hibbs (Brampton, Ont.) also tossed a three-hitter in game two as Adelphi University swept Bentley University, 5-0 and 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference softball Saturday at Janet L. Ficke Field.

Fon walked one and struck while improving to 9-3 on the season. Hibbs fanned 11 Falcons while earning her 12th victory of the season.

In the opener, Adelphi (21-7, 8-0 NE10) scored the only runs it would need, both coming in on a two-run single by sophomore Jaden Farhat (Carlstadt, N.J.).

The Panthers added insurance with RBI singles by senior Ashley Lombardi (Edison, N.J.) and freshman Ziara Shreter (Delran, N.J.) in the fourth. Freshman Courtney Wengryn (Hillsborough, N.J.) completed the game's scoring with an RBI single in the fifth.

Bentley's only run of the afternoon tied the nightcap at 1-1 in the fifth. Graduate third baseman Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge HS) scored on a Panther throwing error.

Adelphi regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI double by Farhat.

Freshman Dahlia Fink (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS) pitched well for Bentley (11-9, 1-3 NE10), allowing seven hits with no walks and one strikeout in the one-run loss.

Bentley's scheduled doubleheader at Pace University has been postponed due to the expected inclement weather.
