Cain, Krause Impress During Bentley’s First Two Games in Florida

COCOA, Fla. – Graduate student Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge HS) homered in each game and left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) had a total of four hits in her collegiate debut, but it wasn't enough as the Bentley University softball team dropped its first two games of the season during the Florida Institute of Technology Invitational at the Launch Pad Sports Complex.

Barry University prevailed in the day's first game, 7-4, and Florida Tech used a five-run third inning to take the second game in five innings, 12-4.

Barry, 4-1, took a 5-1 lead with three runs in the fifth inning and held off the Falcons with single runs in the sixth and seventh. Junior right fielder Courtney Chisholm (Apopka, Fla.) drove in the first two with her second hit of the contest.

Cain, who saw her first Bentley season limited to three games due to an injury, led off the second inning with a home run to right. She had a bases-loaded bunt single in the fifth and capped off the scoring with an RBI double to center in the seventh.

In the third inning against Florida Tech, Krause and Cain each hit two-run homers to even the tally at 4-4. Krause sent her ball to left and Cain's cleared the right center field fence.

It didn't remain even for long as the Panthers answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Graduate third baseman Ashley Campbell (Dunedin, Fla.), graduate Mikayla Wessel (Virginia Beach, Fla.), graduate first baseman Victoria Szrom (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and junior designated player Ella Chang Gibson (San Francisco, Calif.) all doubled and drove in runs during the frame.

Petow had three hits against Florida Tech, completing a 4-for-5 day. Krause had two hits for the second straight game, and Cain finished the afternoon with four hits, five RBI and 11 total bases. Sophomore right fielder Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels) also had two hits against Barry.

The invitational continues on Saturday with Bentley facing West Florida at 11 am and Barry for the second time at 1:30 pm.
